This course explores historical and power-mediated connections between knowledge, language, and diverse literacies. Critical literacy lenses allow the examination of a variety of texts, including print, media, popular culture and events, fostering self-examination as a person and as a teacher. Literacy, language and learning are examined in light of factors related to social class, race, gender, ability, and sexuality in society, media, and schools.
