This course provides students with the opportunity to learn about the philosophical and historical foundations of play therapy, methods for building relationships with children within a theoretical framework, and an introduction to best practices in play therapy applicable to school settings. While students are not expected to become play therapists, they will become familiar with various play therapy approaches and techniques, including their purposes, application goals, therapeutic stages, themes, ethical considerations, and implications for diverse populations and contexts. Ultimately, the course aims to equip students with the foundational knowledge and skills necessary to effectively integrate play therapy approaches into their school counseling practices. Offered annually.
