The course examines a history of African American entertainers of Broadway and Hollywood and how said entertainers used their platform to introduce and/or expand political, social, and cultural discourse on African American life in the United States in the 20th and 21st centuries. Students learn how to analyze and interpret plays, films, and television shows as source material to create original scholarship that addresses historical and contemporary intersectional politics. Offered irregularly.
