The goal of this course is to make you more avid, more intent, and better informed listeners. I will work to direct you toward this goal by introducing you to new (to most of you, anyway) forms and styles of music- providing you with a basic vocabulary to help you make better sense of the music you hear - express yourself more effectively when writing & speaking about music - examining how and why different cultures make music- discussing how different types of music are organized-explaining the physical properties of sound production and some psychological aspects of music perception.
