You will learn the same curriculum as our on-campus students
In this course, we will critically engage in exploring the dynamics between Buddhism and gender, taking an interdisciplinary approach. In order to accomplish this, we will immerse ourselves in Buddhist texts and teachings, secondary literature and delve into the lived experience of the Buddhist women practitioners spanning across various traditions (Early and Mahayana and Tibetan Buddhism). In doing so, we will explore topics ranging from the role and status of women in these traditions, the similarities and differences between Buddhism and Western Feminism, the role of various Buddhist concepts like no-self, non-dualism and emptiness in Feminist theory, and the construction of Buddhist masculinities and femininities.
