Multiculturalism in 21st Century Readings and class discussions online about diversity in America, discarding race and dealing with racism, and the different ethnic groups of our society. It covers the history, status and social interrelations amongst major ethnic groups in American society including European Americans, Native Americans, African Americans, Latinx/os/as, and Asian Americans. This course is an introduction to the social scientific examination of diversity and inequality in the United States. Using examples from the past and present to create a holistic picture of multiculturalism in the US, we will discuss the intersectionality between gender, sexuality, dis/ability, race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, labor, and inequality. The beginning of the course will focus on anthropological, historical, and sociological understandings of the aforementioned topics. As we move towards the later weeks of the semester, we will explore the relationship between these topics as they pertain to “sexual media” including: pornography, live adult entertainment, sexual
technologies, sex education, and portrayals in mainstream American television, film, and video games.
