Anthropology and politics are inextricably intertwined. No matter the subfield, there is some aspect of politics involved in all anthropological research. This course will address how political anthropology contributes to the understanding of, and to navigating, international relations and conflict resolution, colonial influences, global interdependencies, business deals, and anything that involves individuals of varied backgrounds. Political anthropology is the subdiscipline that allows for an exploration of the world through a combination of the fundamental paradigms of anthropology and the incorporated paradigms of political theory and discourse. Through these, students will learn to analyse anthropologically the interconnectedness between the cultures of countries/regions worldwide through politics.
