Take your class online with SUNY
You will learn the same curriculum as our on-campus students
In this course, students will learn the fundamentals of financing for independent filmmakers, including an overview of grants and the grant application process, budgeting for film projects, crowdfunding as audience building, the basics of film finance and distribution, and other practical and financial supports for artistic life and practice. Course assignments include choosing and developing a financing strategy for one project (including development of a budget, choosing several grants that feel like a good fit, and developing an application for one grant, residency, or crowdfunding campaign). Students should walk away with enhanced vocabulary to think like a producer and pursue the practical tools that will make their artistic practice sustainable for years to come.
