This course will provide an introduction to statistics, as well as probability, for economists, business, and other social scientists. We will emphasize topics needed for further study of econometrics and relevant courses. Topics include elements of probability theory, sampling theory, statistical estimation, and hypothesis testing. Format: Delivered in distance education format only. Registered students will be contacted by the instructor via Binghamton e-mail account just prior to the start of the session. A good computer and reliable internet access, as well as a Binghamton e-mail account are required. Course is taught using myCourses with each day's lecture and reading assignment posted daily. Items remain available for students to access at a time of day of their choosing. Quizzes will be given weekly, one midterm and a final exam, all of which will be available for a limited period of time. Also online discussions; possible "blog" sessions in which the students and instructor talk about issues related to course in a less formal manner. Unless otherwise instructed at the beginning of the term, students must take the exam through an online service called ProctorU, which requires a webcam and microphone. Students will be responsible for arranging and paying for ProctorU service, which will be about $22.50. Instructions for arranging this service will be available on myCourses
