Take your class online with SUNY
You will learn the same curriculum as our on-campus students
With a focus on the podcast medium, this course is designed to create a space to explore the connection between digital storytelling and community building. We will work towards telling our own stories through podcasts, with the understanding that stories help us find similarities and differences between one another, thus providing humanizing counterparts to demonizing narratives. In the process of learning the basic techniques of podcasting, students will not only explore narrative conventions like voice and point-of-view but also learn to innovate within and beyond these conventions. No prior experience or proficiency with podcasting is required. Small weekly assignments will help build a final project where students will have a chance to record, edit, and publish their own podcasts. Through the production of our podcasts, we will examine how this medium can be employed to combat the racial and gendered invisibilizing of stories occurring globally.
