This class presents a detailed analysis of the human fossil record from the earliest specimens which can be reliably considered human ancestors to the origin of our own species, Homo sapiens. A number of theoretical concepts will also be will also be discussed regarding evolutionary mechanisms of speciation in the fossil record. The class will include discussion of important recent discoveries from such sites as Naledi, Atapuerca and Liang Bua. Class requirements include completing fun exercises, engaging with virtual fossils, and answering short weekly quizzes to engage with the course material.
