This course examines the Armenian Genocide in multidisciplinary and comparative perspectives. The course provides an overview of the economic, political and social environment in the Ottoman Empire on the eve of World War I, the status of non-Muslims in the Empire, gendered Dynamics in Ottoman Society, the radical socialist movements in Anatolia and the radicalization process of the Young Turk policies towards the Empire`s Armenian subjects, which culminated in the confiscation of properties, dispossession, deportation, and destruction of the Armenian communities empire-wide. The course will also focus on the humanitarian and armed resistance to it, and the aftermath of Genocide.
