Healthcare Finance Courses under this section will be offered based on availability of instructor and request of students. The over all design of this course is to introduce financial management concepts to the non-financial manager. The course will concentrate on healthcare organization but is applicable to a wide range of organization. This course will introduce the topics of financial and managerial accounting and finance as they apply to the provision of health care services. Students will study the theory and practice of how financial information is gathered and used to provide meaningful conclusions about the financial position and performance of health care organizations. Leaders and future leaders of health delivery organizations including hospitals, clinical practices, health insurance providers and other not-for-profit organizations, will benefit from an enhanced understanding of key financial and policy issues. This course will provide the learner with the knowledge necessary to be able to deal with these financial issues. In the module on financial accounting, students will be introduced to the basic language of the world of finance. Students will learn how accounting information is generated and recorded while gaining practical experience and competence in reading and analyzing financial statements. At the end of this module students will be able to analyze and communicate information about the financial health of a health care organization. In the module on managerial accounting, students will acquire knowledge about the basic techniques of financial control and fiscal decision making. Students will be gain an understanding of the four types of budgets. Students will also analyze tools that improve financial decision making. After completing this module students will have acquired the skills to make informed financial decisions directed at accomplishing the long-term objectives of the healthcare organization.
