Introduction to Social Work is designed to introduce students to the profession of social work and to the programs, services and client populations that social workers serve. The course provides an overview of the historical and philosophical roots of social work; the professional value base that guides the profession; dimensions of human behavior and social problems; perspectives on issues of diversity, social justice and the impact of oppression; the social service delivery network and consumer populations; and the social work interventions of practice, policy and research.
