The course focuses on the development of fundamental skills necessary for musical theatre performance. Focus will be on individual growth in vocal and acting techniques and the development of a portfolio of songs for each student, supplemented by scene study, ensemble work, and group and/or partnered presentations. Each performance segment will include strategies and techniques that focus on individual vocal health and full body awareness, including how stress and overall wellness affect musical theatre performance as a psycho-physical practice. This course will also provide chronological and historical background of U.S. musical theatre productions and composition/writing teams with study and discussion focused on student performance of songs, musical genres, vocal qualities and styles from the early 1900s to today's Broadway standards. This course will culminate in final solo presentations in an online cabaret-style format.
