The course introduces students to the history of, and current trends in, anthropological theories of gender and feminist anthropology. We ask: What is gender, anyway? How are "femininity," "masculinity," and other gender identities understood cross-culturally? How is gender shaped by other factors and processes such as race, class, sexuality, migration, capitalism, and globalization? Only one version of A WSS/A ANT 381 may be taken for credit. Prerequisite(s): one course in anthropology or sociology.
