This course is designed primarily for the student who needs a foundation in algebra and functions for the study of calculus. The concept of a function, including its graphical representation, is stressed. Topics include: real numbers; manipulating algebraic expressions; solving equations and inequalities; classes of functions and their graphs, including linear, polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, trigonometric and inverse trigonometric functions; and algebra of trigonometric functions including basic identities. Modeling and solving problems in applied contexts is also emphasized.
