The purpose of this course is to acquaint teachers with current theory and research in reading and writing instruction. Teacher candidates will investigate the range of theories, past and present, that have shaped early literacy instruction and consider instructional practices, approaches and methods, and curriculum materials well-suited to early literacy instruction. Early Literacy assessment techniques prevalent in early literacy classrooms are presented and data analyzed.
