Catalog Course Description
Students analyze data and solve real-life business problems using current relational database management system and structured query language (SQL). Students learn how to create a normalized database schema using data definition language (DDL) and how to manage and query the data using data manipulation language (DML). Students use critical thinking and analysis in hands-on learning applications and create effective solutions to applied real-life business situations. Prerequisites: CPT 1301 Logic & Problem Solving with C++.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Describe relationships between entities in the case problem using an entity-relationship (ERD) diagram model and Crow’s Foot notation.
2. Create structured query language (SQL) statements using data definition language (DDL) to generate the schema for the case problem.
3. Create structured query language (SQL) statements using data manipulation language (DML) to manipulate and query the case problem database.
4. Implement the normalization process on the case problem provided.
5. Develop technical skills or expertise necessary to implement sustainable database solutions.
