Catalog Course Description
This course may be taken by students in programs that require a MAT elective, but do not require a mathematics sequence in algebra. Students learn critical thinking and problem solving, estimation, modeling with functions, conversions between units of measure, geometry, probability, statistics, personal finance, and mathematics in the arts.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Apply critical thinking skills through problem solving and estimation, particularly with applications in the areas of geometry and finance.
2. Display data using various graphs, and interpret data found on such graphs.
3. Calculate and interpret simple statistics such as mean, median, mode, standard deviation, and proportion.
4. Compute simple probabilities.
