Catalog Course Description
Students learn principles of operant and classical conditioning and applications of these principles in order to help students change behavior in themselves and others. In addition, cognitive-behavioral approaches to emotional and behavioral change in both normal and abnormal behaviors are addressed.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Describe the principles of operant and classical conditioning.
2. Explain cognitive behavioral principles in conjunction with operant conditioning to modify behavior.
3. Identify the differences between objectivity and subjectivity when working with individuals with psychological problems.
4. Describe practical and realistic goals for behavior change and how to determine the effectiveness of a behavioral intervention.
5. Evaluate a systematic and scientific plan to change behavior.
6. Identify and use vocabulary of behaviorally-oriented clinicians.
7. Describe different ways to systematically record behaviors.
