This seminar focuses on diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) in libraries and information science (LIS) from both the patron side and the library employee side. Information professionals must be prepared to design services, systems, programs, policies, and spaces that respond to the needs of their very diverse users and employees. They must also contribute to inclusive work environments for their employees and their colleagues, regardless of their positionality within the workplace. Information professionals also have a responsibility to identify and combat racism and other forms of discrimination in information contexts and workplaces. Through self-reflection, research, discussion, and sharing opportunities, students in this class will begin to develop the knowledge and skills required to lay the foundation for creating more socially just libraries and information spaces.
