Selected topics courses are regularly scheduled courses that focus on a particular topic of interest. Descriptions are printed in the Schedule of Classes each semester. Selected topics courses may be used as elective credit and may be repeated for credit, provided that the topic of the course changes.
The emergence of Hybrid/Remote Learning has forced teachers to explore new and creative ways to assess students' progress. This course seeks to share teachers' experiences and build upon lessons learned. The course also seeks to prepare teachers to use best practices for remote/hybrid learning. Multiple, cutting-edge digital tools to create lessons with 21st Century Skills and project-based learning (PBL) focused on the "Four C's" -- Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration, and Creativity -- will be explored. Applied use of many platforms for formative assessment, creating and delivering instructional videos, and other materials will be addressed. The latest research into instructional technology integration in the K-12 classroom will also be discussed. Non-Degree and/or Continuing Teacher and Leader Unit (CTLE/CEU) students interested in taking this course would register using the non-matriculated student application, which you can find https://www.newpaltz.edu/registrar/course-registration/nonmatriculated.html#d.en.21122. Those interested in receiving CTLE credit may reach out to Mr. Chris Whitaker at whitakec@newpaltz.edu.
