Selected topics courses are regularly scheduled courses that focus on a particular topic of interest. Descriptions are printed in the Schedule of Classes each semester. Selected topics courses may be used as elective credit and may be repeated for credit, provided that the topic of the course changes. This course will provide teachers with overarching principles and classroom strategies for promoting the responsible integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in teaching and learning. Attention will be given to developing guidelines that take into consideration the rapid evolution of AI systems. The responsible integration of AI technologies in the K-12 classroom can enhance the learning experience, cater to individual student needs, and streamline administrative tasks. This course will also encourage the exploration of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) tools such as ChatGPT for the assessment of student learning. Teachers will collaborate with ChatGPT and other AI tools to learn how best they might structure and assess lessons to help teachers assist students to critically engage with AI tools to understand their capabilities and limitations, and how they might be used to develop authentic assignments and assessments. Non-Degree and/or Continuing Teacher and Leader Unit (CTLE/CEU) students interested in taking this course would register using the non-matriculated student application, which you can find here: https://www.newpaltz.edu/registrar/course-registration/nonmatriculated.html#d.en.21122.
