Selected topics courses are regularly scheduled courses that focus on a particular topic of interest. Descriptions are printed in the Schedule of Classes each semester. Selected topics courses may be used as elective credit and may be repeated for credit, provided that the topic of the course changes. Selected Topic: The Psychology of Loss and Grief: Examines research on psychological reactions to death and other forms of loss. Topics will include the nature of attachment, typical and extreme reactions to death, various current models of adjusting to loss, the importance of death rituals, and grief counseling and other evidence-informed interventions for survivors. Reactions to experiences like the pandemic, pregnancy loss, pet loss, and ambiguous losses will also be addressed.
