This course introduces the mathematics and statistics at the foundation of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, and Data Mining. Assuming only a basic set of mathematical skills, the following mathematical topics, and their usage in AI, will be covered: linear algebra, matrices/tensors, probability, Bayesian probability, statistics, optimization, and vector calculus. The application of these mathematical concepts to AI will be highlighted throughout the course. Computer code illustrating concepts will be presented, but no prior programming experience is required. The course may culminate with an introduction to neural networks, which form the foundational architecture of many popular generative AI tools and Large Language Models (LLMs).
