This course explores current trends, issues and best-practices in working with PreK-12th grade students with high incidence disabilities. Topics with an emphasis on evidence based strategy instruction, behavioral intervention and curriculum resources will be addressed. The purpose of this course is to provide pre-service teachers with the skills and knowledge required for teaching students with high-incidence disabilities (LD, ADHD, EBD, Communication Disorders, and Mild Intellectual Disabilities) in inclusive settings. Characteristics of students in high-incidence disability categories, current special education mandates, and trends and issues will be discussed. Students will identify, select, and demonstrate appropriate teaching strategies, technology, and behavioral support for individuals with high incidence disabilities in various PreK-12 situations. The is a 15-hour field component is required for this course. Must be enrolled in one of the following Levels: Graduate; Graduate Non-Matriculated.
