In this course students will learn about the ancient foundations of political theory and political science, with an emphasis on the two giants of ancient political thought: Plato and Aristotle. Students will study some of the most famous and influential ideas in the history of Western thought, including: the Philosopher-King, the allegory of the cave, the idea that 'man is a political animal', the Golden Mean, and the nature of justice. Students will also examine and evaluate these ideas within the context of diverse and contemporary critiques.
