How do films shape our understanding of identity, and what happens when these stories cross languages and cultures? This course explores how race, gender, and nationality are constructed through storytelling, character development, and visual language, and how these representations shift in subtitled or dubbed versions. In each session, we will watch a segment of a film and discuss how translation influences meaning. Through film clips, discussions, and case studies, students will uncover hidden layers in both original and translated versions. No background in film or translation is needed—just curiosity about movies, language, and culture.
