Catalog Course Description

Students learn and improve upon professional communication skills in written, oral, and presentation formats. Students learn communication skills to help solve problems, learn new things, and build their careers. Students explore the use of technology and collaboration to enhance the effectiveness of business communication.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. Demonstrate recognition of the importance of communication in gaining a better understanding of self and others.
2. Identify and analyze ways in which language can be an obstacle or barrier to communication.
3. Explain the role of language in perception and the communication process.
4. Explain how written communication is like oral communication, and how it is different.
5. Demonstrate an ability to order, outline, and emphasize the main points in one or more written assignments.
6. Demonstrate an understanding of and explain the principles of nonverbal communication.
