Catalog Course Description
This course explores selected iconic works of literature from diverse cultural traditions, examining how writers perceive and interpret the world. Through close reading and analysis, students engage with a range of genres and literary styles, considering texts within their historical, social, and cultural contexts. Prerequisite: ENG 1001 Composition I.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Describe the contributions of key microbiologists and the microbial classification system.2. Describe the function of different types of microscopes and staining techniques.
3. Compare the structure and function of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.
4. Outline key metabolic processes and genetic mechanisms in prokaryotic cells.
5. Classify microbes based on their optimal growth conditions and explain how they are cultured in laboratory settings.
6. Assess the effectiveness of various methods of microbial control.
7. Describe the structure and replication cycles of viruses.
8. Identify key terms and factors related to infectious diseases, and outline the mechanisms of microbial pathogenesis.
9. Explain how the innate and adaptive immune systems detect and respond to pathogens.
10. Evaluate the roles of vaccines, serological reactions, and antimicrobial drugs in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease.
