Catalog Course Description

This course provides an examination of the philosophical thinking from which various contemporary theories of the "individual" and "society" arise.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. Explain the difference between models of understanding in the natural sciences a nd the social sciences.
2. Describe the key philosophical assumptions that underlie practices of inquiry in the social sciences.
3. Define the merits and limitations of empirical methods in social science inquiry.
4. Analyze and write critically about philosophical assumptions in the social sciences.
5. Analyze the primary content of this class in relation to another academic discipline.
