All topics in this course address cross-cultural views on race. Course projects focus on the importance of identifying a community and their conceptual ideas in order to study race, ethnicity, gender, and social class both ethnically and appropriately. For example, during the Language and Communication module, relationships related to language, race, ethnicity, & social class are evaluated through exploration of linguistic profiling, homophily and code-switching in both daily life and politics. Similarly, the Race, Ethnicity, and Conflict module evaluates the implications of racial categories and stereotypes, and discusses intercultural racial/social stratification issues within workplace environments.
