Dive into the world of play and the multifaceted pleasures it brings. This course delves into the intricate web of social and academic dialogues and debates surrounding video games and game culture. We examine video games through a cultural and sociological lens, exploring how culture, socialization, and values are intricately interwoven with the world of gaming. Despite being a leading economic force in the entertainment and educational domains, video games are often shrouded in stereotypes and anxieties. This course equips students to become fluent in the vocabulary of video game analysis and proficient in addressing the societal issues and misconceptions surrounding them. By the end of this course, students will be well-versed in the cultural and social dynamics of gaming and prepared to engage in informed discussions and debates on this ever-evolving and culturally significant topic.
