This course will provide an overview of the evolution of social media from its origins in the Bronze age to the present day. Students will learn about the technological revolution that led to the advent of the Internet, Web 2.0, and social media sites, as well as the profound and far-reaching effects these technologies have had on the fabric of our society. In doing so, we will examine case studies that expound on themes of ethics, legality, privacy, power, and subterfuge in the Internet age.
