The purpose of this course is to introduce the history, the social-political-philosophical context, and underlying theories surrounding the roles played by race and ethnicity in the struggle for equal educational opportunity in the U.S. The emphases of this course will be the reinforcement of the skills of logic, synthesis, analysis, application and evaluation when viewing or critiquing the complex issues of social equality, educational opportunity and diversity that are affecting education, society and our lives today. This course is designed to provide no only substantive data and background that form a foundation for the study of race, ethnicity and equal educational opportunity in America but also the skills to make systematic and objective analyses of the related issues, problems and concerns.
