You will learn the same curriculum as our on-campus students
Whether or not you speak English as your native language, it is beneficial to understand the role of English in our global society, and the systematic ways that it varies around the world. In this class, students explore variation in the vocabulary, grammar, and phonology of English as it is used in different regions of the world. English variation is presented within its historical and sociopolitical context. We consider English varieties in countries where it is used as the primary language, those countries where it has a colonial history, and countries where English is spoken as a lingua franca for economic, scientific, and political reasons.
