Philosophical study of the conflict between personal values and the needs of society. Topics include personal and social values, the nature of moral reasoning, and ways to resolve conflicts between values. Readings from philosophers such as Plato, Aristotle, Locke and Mill. All students will engage with philosophical readings and discussion focused on how value systems, social norms, and political structures intersect with race, gender, and class identity.
