This course is an introduction to professional social work practice that strives to create change in partnership with individuals, families, groups, organizations, communities, and society. The course focuses on socially just intervention, reframed as action and accompaniment, in the context of professional relationships with others. Students will learn, critique, select and apply a range of theoretical perspectives, models, and approaches to social work practice for change. Action and accompaniment skills with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities are practiced through classroom-based skills labs. Student reflection on skills gained by those served and themselves will connect to intersectional approaches to practice evaluation and celebration. Co-requisites: Ssw 551 and Ssw 651. Students who received credit for Ssw 620 cannot take this course.
