This course explores historical and current trends and issues in literacy education, with a focus on how to advocate for diverse learners within the growing cultural diversity of a global society. The course will also focus on the impact that dominant power structures have upon literacy instruction and learning in today’s schools. An opportunity to adapt a literacy curriculum to meet the needs of diverse learners within classrooms will be provided. Field component required.
