Cinematic Memories seeks to explore personal histories through the lens of cinema. We spend our time traveling roads we have spent time on, but now seem estranged from us. You may have spent a great deal of time in a place or with a group of people, but as time progresses, they become a place you used to be in, people you used to know. This is also the nature of our memories. How do these moments that remain affect us? Now we must try and capture those feelings. The familiar and unfamiliar of our past, present, and future. Students will investigate and approach these echoes first by writing diary entries. Keeping these lynchpin moments written on a page begins the process of reflective documenting. Secondly, they will create a series of short videos based on these thoughts and writings. Students will use cameras they have access to, such as smartphones and digital video cameras. This course aims to encourage students to create personal, poetic works that engage them and the viewer, to think deeply about the moments in life that stay with us, change us, and what they can show us about the future.
