Take your class online with SUNY
You will learn the same curriculum as our on-campus students
This course is designed to familiarize students with topics and issues in environmental philosophy and policy. On the ethics side, we will be exploring different perspectives on value and valuing, what kinds of responsibilities we might have toward plants and animals, and what it means to be a responsible steward of the planet. On the policy side, we’ll discuss various approaches to addressing climate issues and their justifications, often applying the ethical tools we acquire throughout the class. While the empirical work we’ll be reading provides evidence that certain issues are occurring, the philosophical work will inform how we should respond.
