You will learn the same curriculum as our on-campus students
This course is an introduction to the origins and foundations of the United States from the seventeenth century to the aftermath of the Civil War. Utilizing lecture videos, discussion posts, and readings of primary sources, historical monographs, and other texts, we will investigate the diverse and complex human experiences across four major eras: Colonial Development, the Revolution, the New Republic, and the Civil War. Special attention will be given to how various groups, including Native Americans, enslaved people, immigrants, women, children, non-elites, and “traditional” actors, responded to social, economic, political, and cultural transformations on the North American continent. Students are required to watch the lecture videos and submit weekly assignments, including but not limited to discussion posts and primary source analyses.
