Evolutionary Neuropsychology is an emerging, multidisciplinary scientific field dedicated to understanding the evolutionary origins of the human brain's structures and functions. This course will incorporate empirical work from fields of evolution, neuroscience, the cognitive and psychological sciences, anthropology, and archeology to survey the evolution of the central nervous system. Through weekly assigned readings, we will survey the evolution of functional anatomy associated with behaviors like learning and memory, movement, language generation, attention, social processing, and sleep. As this is a seminar class- active participation is part of the course experience. Students should expect to meet synchronously online up to twice/week and spend time with other classmates outside of class working on assignments. Successful completion of this course will include thoughtful completion of assigned readings, discussions, and brief writing assignments each week.
