Finance Basics will help the life science manager understand the role of financial management in a life science company . Students will gain an appreciation of the role of finance in the management practices within a life science venture . This course provides broad exposure to financial concepts , principles , analytic tools , techniques , and practices . This is an introductory course in finance , which assumes the student does not have a background in business . This course intends to introduce the student to the basic vocabulary and concepts of financial reasoning , give the student familiarity with key financial decisions made by financial managers in a business , and provide a conceptual framework for the analysis of these decisions . This course will discuss the building blocks of the time value of money ( which is a central and critical concept in finance ) , as well as corporate choices on project investments and financing options .
