This course is designed for writers of poetry to hone their craft and elevate their writing skills. Assignments are short and personal, designed to cultivate students' personal writing styles and voices. Students will closely study a variety of published poets of different cultures, time periods, and styles. The course will serve as an introduction to the writing of original poetry in various forms including sonnet, haiku, free verse and more. In addition to working within literary conventions to produce a portfolio of poetry, students will learn to critique their own work and the work of their peers by participating in weekly writing workshops.
