Selected topics courses are regularly scheduled courses that focus on a particular topic of interest. Descriptions are printed in the Schedule of Classes each semester. Selected topics courses may be used as elective credit and may be repeated for credit, provided that the topic of the course changes. This course covers core artificial intelligence (AI) concepts, pedagogical integration, bias/fairness, data privacy, digital citizenship, and hands-on tool use. The course focuses on a critical evaluation of the societal impact of AI in education, responsible AI policies, and students' AI literacy to create tech-savvy, ethically-aware learners and educators. The course will also feature hands-on labs to experiment with Generative AI tools (ChatGPT, etc.), discussions focused on ethical issues, AI bias, and AI policies. Case studies to review real-world AI applications, and the creation of AI-integrated project-based lesson plans to assess students' AI tool use. Core modules and topics include foundations of AI & Education, Ethical Principle & Bias, responsible AI in practice and pedagogical integration and literacy.
