This course connects central theories of reading and composition to the practical action an ELA teacher takes in the secondary English classroom (Grades 7-12). Through informational/literary readings, discussion, and individual and collaborative writing activities, students develop their identity as teachers of reading and writing. Students design effective reading and writing assignments in traditional and popular (multimodal, etc.) genres; coordinate peer-, teacher-, and writer self-assessment to improve texts; and create and facilitate a grade-specific lesson that meets national and state standards.
