Abuse and neglect across the lifespan explores the complex and multifaceted nature of abuse and neglect in individuals of all ages, from children to older adults. The course examines historical perspectives, social and cultural factors, and the societal impact of maltreatment. Students will analyze legal frameworks, mandatory reporting laws, and relevant social welfare policies, with an emphasis on understanding the roles of professionals in human services and related fields. The course addresses strategies for intervention, treatment, and prevention, highlighting evidence-based practices and ethical considerations.
Prerequisites:
SOC101 or PSY101, 2.5 cumulative GPA.
