Cultural Foundations in Education providesstudents with a deep understanding of thehistorical, philosophical, and culturalfoundations of education in the United States,with an emphasis on how these roots continue toshape today's schools, policies, and classrooms.Students will explore the meaning and purpose ofeducation within local, national, and globalcontexts, examining how societal values, teacheridentity, and cultural perspectives impact theeducational experience.Through a social justice lens, students willengage in critical conversations around currenteducational issues- such as equity, access,inclusion, and culturally responsive practices.Emphasis will be placed on understanding thetheoretical complexities of today's diverseclassrooms. A 30-hour field-based observation inan approved PreK-12 setting is required, allowingstudents to connect theory to real-world applications.

PSY 204, PSY 207, or EDU 182.
